Plainview votes to fly old Minnesota flag
PLAINVIEW, Minn. (KTTC) – The city of Plainview became the latest southeast Minnesota community to decide to fly the old Minnesota state flag instead of the new one adopted in 2024.
The Plainview City Council voted 3-2 at its meeting Tuesday to fly the 1983 version of the flag on city property.
That flag shows an Indigenous person riding off into the sunset while a white settler plows a field with a rifle located nearby. Many Native Americans have said the scene is offensive.
The new flag consists of three colors: deep blue, light blue and white. They represent the night sky, water and Polaris, after which the North Star State gets its nickname.
Zumbrota is another community in our area that has approved flying the former Minnesota flag.
