Girls on the Run Minnesota hosts Rochester 5K at St. Mary’s University campus

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) –Girls on the Run Minnesota hosted its Rochester 5K on Saturday morning at the St. Mary’s University Rochester Campus.
Girls on the Run is an eight-week program for third- to eighth-grade girls. The program focuses on positive development through activities such as self-talk and making friends.
“So, at the end of the season, that eight weeks long, we have a culmination celebration 5K,” said organizer Brianna Kammel. “So, all of the teams from Southern Minnesota come to this 5K with their 5K buddies and all the coaches. And they walk, run, gallop.”
Six teams from six local schools ran the 5K with a buddy along the Douglas Trail from Lourdes to Cascade Lake and back. That equals about 100 girls, each with one or more buddies.
Organizers said the race acts as a support activity.
“It’s awesome to see this, especially from a volunteer standpoint,” said 5K committee member Alex Fisher. “During this for so long, I think every year we get more people and more buddies. So, it’s great to see all the support that these girls have as they’re growing up.
