Rochester Mayor Kim Norton invites students to take part in “Mayor for a Day” contest
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Mayor Kim Norton is challenging local school students to think big about their city’s future through the League of Minnesota Cities’ annual “Mayor for a Day” Essay Contest.
The contest invites Rochester’s 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students to answer one simple question: If you became mayor for one day, what would you do?
The initiative gives students the opportunity to offer up their ideas on what they think would make the city a better place.
Rochester joins other cities across Minnesota in participating in the statewide contest.
Students have until Dec. 12 to submit their “Day One” plan outlining their vision for improving the community. Winners will each receive $100 and be recognized in Minnesota Cities magazine.
“This contest gives students a voice to imagine the kind of city they want to live in, and to see how local government helps make that vision a reality,” said Mayor Norton. “I encourage all Rochester students to take part and share their ideas.”
Essays can be directly entered online, or mailed to the League of Minnesota Cities at 145 University Ave. W., Saint Paul, MN 55103.
