DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) - Luther College has partnered with Decorah Community Schools to launch a Preferred Admission program for top-performing students in the area.

The partnership offers qualified Decorah High School students the opportunity for Preferred Admission to Luther College and a Preferred Admission scholarship.

This program aims to provide more higher education opportunities for top students in the area.

“The Preferred Admission Partnership opens doors for Decorah students to pursue an excellent academic opportunity close to home, recognizing their hard work and supporting their next steps,” said Cindy Goodner, president of the Decorah Community School District Board of Education.

In order to be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.25 unweighted GPA and finish Algebra II by the end of their junior year.

Students in good standing with the program will be granted Preferred Admission to Luther College. This status also qualifies them for a $500 Preferred Admission award and additional scholarships.

“Students from Decorah High School are among the best in the nation and its graduates have consistently thrived at Luther,” said Matthew R. Beatty, vice president for enrollment management at Luther. “We are delighted to create a clear and supportive pathway for them to continue their education and reach their full potential on our campus.”

Decorah students who are not eligible for the program are still encouraged to apply to Luther College. Students will be reviewed for acceptance and awards.

To join the program, contact the Decorah High School counselors Pat Trewin and Brigit Storhoff, or Luther College Assistant Director of Admissions Mary Hellmark.
