The Iowa State Fair begins Thursday

DES MOINES, Iowa (KTTC) – It is time to get in the ‘fair spirit’ because Thursday is the big kick off to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines!

If you are heading there, you can expect all the classics from the famous butter cow and agricultural shows, to top-tier live grandstand music, the giant slide and more than 100 different foods on a stick.

An expert panel from USA Today recently nominated their top 20 state fairs, with voters placing Iowa at number 7.

Unfortunately, Rod Stewart has cancelled his place in Friday’s grandstand performance line-up after a heart procedure. Fair staff say they are actively looking for a replacement.

The Iowa State Fair runs through August 23 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
