Former doctor’s bid to dismiss murder indictment denied
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A Minnesota appeals court has denied a former doctor’s attempt to throw out his first-degree murder indictment, allowing the case to move forward toward trial.
Connor Bowman faces first- and second-degree murder convictions in connection with the poisoning death of his wife, Betty Bowman, in August 2023.
Bowman’s defense attorneys asked the Minnesota Court of Appeals to dismiss the first-degree murder charge, arguing the grand jury process was unfair. They said a judge who was not assigned to the case was involved in the proceedings and that prosecutors made improper statements before the grand jury, including references to the punishment for a first-degree murder conviction.
The appeals court ruled there were no “extraordinary circumstances” to justify halting the case.
Bowman’s case will continue toward a jury trial. No public indication of a trial date has been given.
