Rochester woman sentenced to six months in prison for role in Feeding Our Future fraud scheme

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A third person from Rochester has been sentenced in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.
Asha Jama previously pleaded guilty to a federal money laundering charge. On Tuesday, Jama was sentenced to six months in prison and one year of supervised release.
Court records show Jama stole $449,933 from the federal government. She has been ordered to pay that money back.
According to court documents, Jama deposited a $200,000 check to buy a home in Rochester. In a separate transaction, Jama deposited $36,000 for a home in Lakeville.
Jama must voluntarily surrender to her place of confinement on July 16.
Jama and four others operated out of the Brava Restaurant in Rochester. The conspirators claimed the restaurant served 2,000 and 3,000 daily meals to children.
In total, the Feeding Our Future scheme exploited $250 million of federal funding for a child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic.
