DES MOINES, Iowa -- Vice President J.D. Vance will no longer make two appearances in Iowa this Thursday. Vance had been scheduled to headline an event with Turning Point USA at Iowa State University Thursday and a campaign event with U.S. Representative Nunn (R-3rd District, Ankeny).

Turning Point USA event postponed

Turning Point USA -- the organization founded by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk to attract young voters and now led by his widow, Erika -- blamed Vance’s cancelation on a “scheduling conflict.”

“Unfortunately, Vice President Vance has been forced to cancel his appearance due to a scheduling conflict,” Turning Point USA explained in a message to supporters.

“Additionally, despite our best efforts, Iowa State University has informed us that, with students now entering prep week and final exams, they are unable to accomodate a rescheduled date this semester,” the announcement added.

Turning Point USA said the Vance visit to Iowa State would be rescheduled for the fall.

Vance evacuated on Saturday

Saturday night, Vance had to be evacuated by U.S. Secret Service along with President Donald Trump when a man rushed past security with weapons at a hotel hosting the White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Secret Service agents apprehended the man, Cole Allen from California. Neither Trump nor Vance was injured.

Allen now faces charges of attempted assassination of President Trump.

In the message to supporters, Turning Point USA said that Vance’s postponed appearance at Iowa State was not because of security concerns.

“To be clear, this is not due to security concerns related to recent events. This is simply a matter of scheduling conflicts,” the message stated.

The message added, “...his attendance is required back in Washington, D.C., this week for critical congressional votes that have been unexpectedly scheduled.”

Congress has been working to approve a new farm bill. Continued to pass a new farm since the previous one originally expired in 2024 has led to a series of temporary extensions.

Nunn event with Vance rescheduled

Nunn announced that Vance’s attendance at his campaign event Thursday will be rescheduled for next Tuesday.
