On December 15, 2021 SE Minnesota and NE Iowa saw historic storms. It is the largest tornado outbreak in our area’s history. There were 32 total in the area, 71 in total.
August 10, 2020 came without much warning. In its 14 hour span, the multi state derecho started as a cluster of thunderstorms stretching from south east South Dakota, to Ohio.
The loud noises, the video we've seen and the aftermath of severe weather can be frightening for people of all ages, but especially the youngest ones in our lives.
So now that we know a little bit about severe weather, we decided to test our colleagues' knowledge to see if they know what to do in severe weather situations.
Radar technology has vastly improved our capacity for severe weather detection and prediction, giving real-time information that helps meteorologists track severe thunderstorms and determine whether or not a tornado is forming.
