Dave is a veteran anchor and feature reporter/MMJ with decades of broadcast experience. Some of his most memorable stories have been produced under the "Allgood News" franchise he's built over several decades in radio and TV, "Everybody has a story, what's yours?"
Dave has served as a main Anchor/Reporter, weather anchor and as a news photographer — in addition to freelance work as a host and reporter with the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. He has more than 25 years of radio broadcast experience as an on-air announcer and content creator.
Dave also hosted an award-winning travel series out of Atlanta called "Georgia on a Budget."
Dave is an avid road bicyclist, a runner, and loves hiking (and anything outdoors)! He enjoys yoga, gardening, and is working on authoring several books (in fact, he also loves working part-time at bookstores whenever possible). Dave has an infectiously enthusiastic spirit and a palpable energy and is excited about bringing his storytelling capabilities to the adventure-filled state of Alaska!
Dave dabbled in a variety of jobs before arriving to the media world including; Commercial Fisherman (5 seasons out of Dutch Harbor), Flight Attendant, Baggage Handler, and most recently Dave was a pick-up driver for FedEx Express and a Bookseller at Barnes & Nobles.
When not working you will find Dave at the YMCA, playing his guitar, and exploring any and all trails here in Anchorage.

Sgt. Jon Butler of the Anchorage Police Department and Anchorage Cops for Community partnered with Young Lives Alaska to give a surprise free shopping spree to selected teen mothers. This year, they decided to move the ‘surprise’ giving to the teen moms from December to July, thus ‘Christmas in July.’ With help from Walmart and Matson, two teen moms were selected to help shop for a host of teen moms on the receiving end of the community's generosity. The two young women chosen to shop were Puata 'Pua' and her son Ezrah and … Lacy and her son Gabriel. Both moms are bettering themselves with college and entrepreneurship so to be able to defer the costs of diapers, formula, baby clothes and playthings is quite a financial relief. Again, this was all a surprise! What a wonderful gift from the community to better Anchorage citizens. A big thanks to Katie Bailey of AC4C and Celeste Johnson of Young Lives Alaska. Will Bennett loved his dog Holly. The bachelor got his dog during the height of COVID-19 and said Holly was a gem of a dog, going wherever Will would go and doing whatever Will was doing. The two were inseparable. So, when Holly, at just 4 years old, got sick and suddenly passed away just a few months ago, Will was devastated. But this past weekend, he decided to — on Memorial Day — have a "remembrance" service for his beloved dog. A couple of close friends stopped by to remember a pal that gave nothing but pure love. Why do we get so attached to dogs? And why does it hurt so much to lose them? Will is candid and open about the pain of losing what is more than just a dog.

Mandy Iworrigan lives on St. Lawrence Island in the town of Gambell. She was walking her one-year-old dog Nanuq, an Australian shepherd she had gotten for her daughter. That was March 7, 2023. Nanuq later wandered off and Mandy thought Nanuq might come home, but after a few weeks? Mandy became worried. But a month later and 150 miles away (via the frozen Bering Sea) in Wales, Alaska, Nanuq was found alive and in pretty good shape! A photo of a dog posted on a Facebook group called Nome Chatter by Hilary & Michael Ahinga was in fact Nanuq. Dave talks to Mandy about the happy ending, and what she thought happened to Nanuq over the course of that month he was missing. Did she ever give up hope of finding him? She did not! Jill Flanders Crosby has spent her life in motion as a dance instructor, most of that time right here in Anchorage at the University of Alaska Anchorage as a dance instructor and dance professor. Jill has been a staple in the dance community here for almost 50 years, but her ‘last dance’ will be this Friday at the Anchorage Museum. The performance will be bittersweet as the university is shutting down the dance and theater programs and Jill is retiring after a wonderful career.

Barbara Nickels of Soldotna always leaves the door cracked when she lets her dog Jesse out. And when Jesse comes back in? She knows to close the door. But this time? Jesse brought a friend into her atrium. A big friend... a MOOSE! Much to Barb's shock, the moose was happily munching on all her greenery with Jesse just sitting down beside the big fella. Cops, a lot of noise, and a few broken plant pots later, the moose was safely out of the house. What a story to tell! Only in Alaska.

Sister Lucia Nguyen works for Catholic Social Services in Anchorage and teaches art and music to people who are trying to escape the realities of life. That includes those in women's shelters & homeless residents. She is passionate about sharing her expression of art as therapy and a way to ease the pain of people in transition — processing emotions by putting them down on canvas. Sister Lucia says they can ALWAYS use more art supplies! They invite Alaskans to donate any size of art canvas, acrylic paints, and paint brushes. Ron Bailey of Bailey’s Furniture here in Anchorage started collecting cookie jars back in 1998. Since then, he has amassed more than 700 of the cultural art cookie collection pieces. He has jars from the 1920s all the way up to today. His collection adorns the tops of shelves throughout his retail store, and as a true collector, he says “they are not for sale.” But they are available for viewing at Bailey's Furniture during normal business hours... and what a treat they are!

The Iditarod is uniquely Alaskan, and so are the people! Dave was at the ceremonial start of the 51st Iditarod in Anchorage on Saturday and, well, he sings the Iditarod Song with a U.S. Senator, Lisa Murkowski; discusses mushing with Alaska’s state representative, Mary Peltola; meets a young U.S. Marine taking in his first Iditarod, and oh! Dawn and John Boullion, owners of Beignet Today, like to bake — so much so that they’ve turned their home kitchen into a business fit for a king… a King Cake that is. The couple have turned their Cajun baking skills into a weekend business that in just one year has become a part-time, full-time job, especially during the season of Mardi Gras. They are open just four hours a day on Saturdays and Sundays and cake-hungry customers flock to their house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to scoop up the delicious homemade baked goods. The future, like their cakes, is rising.

Alaska K-9 Aquatics in Anchorage is just that, a dog pool! Dogs can come in from the cold and play, older dogs can do therapy and dogs rehabbing can mend their boo boos. Heather Priest has been there since the beginning, and she does it all. Training, indoctrination, puppies and seniors… she gets them all, lovingly into the water. And to say it’s a ‘doggone’ good time would be exactly right. Dave has a lot of fun with the dogs and takes a ‘deep dive’ into this canine pool story.

Colleen Puch retired last week after driving a school bus for 50 years (8 years in Ohio and 42 in Kenai). The 80-year-old is spry and looking forward to fun and retirement and says she loved her kids and the biggest thing she learned from them was respect is a two-way street. Her Supervisor, Neal DuPerron, of First Student Bus Company, says it's going to be hard to replace such an amazing person. Last week they threw Puch a surprise retirement party. The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage has a new temporary visitor; an orphaned male polar bear, and although he doesn’t have a name and the public can’t see him yet, he’s drawing attention to what might happen when the young cub is released from quarantine. When he was rescued, he was seen eating an arctic fox, which are known to have rabies. So, I visited the zoo to talk to zookeeper Sam Levin about the new addition, and the current edition, 20 year-old polar bear Cran’bear'y. But, like a lot of my stories, the focus turned from the amazing creatures in front of me to the two-legged variety standing beside me, in awe of what they were seeing — polar bears and people at the Alaskan Zoo… they never disappoint. So, we meet Reggie and his two daughters Lonnie and Aleigha. It was a ‘bear’y good interview.

Travis Lind is a bit of a renaissance man from Wasilla. He works a night job and works on a food truck that he and his mother own. He’s also a photographer and loves making music and music videos. He and his wife, Sierra, are quite creative and to say they’re in love is to say the sky is blue and water is wet. It’s that obvious. So, when I got an email from Travis’s mother Susan about a Christmas video he made called “Wish Upon a Snow Globe," I was intrigued. The video is not only fun, catchy and sweet, it just makes you smile — at least it did me. After watching it a few times, I reached out to find out more about this guy named Travis and this "earworm" music video that I just can’t get out of my head.

The Ukrainian Choir came to the Alaska’s News Source studio last week and sang two Christmas carols; one in their native language and one in English. It was pretty amazing and a bit emotional. The Alaska's News Source staff gathered and many captured video on phones of the choir singing. I posted my video on my Facebook page, and that afternoon I got a call from a friend in Colorado who has a Ukrainian friend with family and friends in the city of Kyiv, which is a war zone. She asked if I could send my video so she could send it to the folks in Kyiv. I did, and four days later, a grandmother and her granddaughter, Natalia and Sofia (no last names or exact locations) sent a video response on how much the choir singing meant to them and how much it meant to know that America supports Ukrainians. The video is emotional and hits home on how, even under the duress of war, a grandmother can send a message wishing "us" here in America “safety and peace.” It is a testament to the power of song and knowing you’re not alone in your struggles.

Tyra and Chance Bogert told Dave Allgood of the Allgood News that they "were amazed and surprised to see the one-in-a-million occurrence" happen right beyond their doorstep. You see the moose walk into the frame from the left, he shakes like a dog trying to shed water and slightly bends over and — "pop" and "crack" — both his antlers snap off his head. The moose is obviously startled and hops and runs away. The chances of catching something like this on video are pretty rare and to date, the couple says they have almost five million views after posting it on TikTok. The antlers were big, measuring 50 inches across. They say they now have a great story to tell their 3-month-old son Thrasher. They are going to have the antlers mounted. And that story? A little church in Chugiak is making big waves in the grant department, helping Alaskans across the state. It was just an idea almost 10 years ago: recycle and reuse and raise money for needy causes. Kay Abrams and her United Methodist Church in Chugiak are pioneers in setting up an amazing fundraising machine for their church’s missions. It all started with the idea of raising money for the church, but that idea was trumped for a better one: raising money for worthy causes. Abrams, along with lots of volunteers and support from her pastors, has taken the simple idea of yard selling to the next level, using what would be discarded items and reselling them with no price tag! The idea has been a winner for the church and charity causes across the state.

It's not often you can see brown bears, bison, reindeer and black bears all within walking distance of each other and in their natural habitat. But, at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, that's exactly the case. But, as Dave found out, it's just not the animals that are intriguing but the humans who come to watch them. the Allgood News ran into some locals and tourists who were in their natural habitat, being human!

Marybeth Holleman didn’t start out to be a poet, but she found her voice through the medium and is now celebrating her first collection of works called "tender gravity." There are so many loving pets waiting for adoption at shelters across our great state and then there are the ones that may never get adopted. The elderly, those older dogs with health issues... But those are exactly the pets that Sue Mayo loves and adopts.

Some moms and dads and daughters and sons really do look a like. Others not so much. But at the Alaska State Fair its about the entire package; clothes, hair, shirts and even bear ears and tattoos! Dave Allgood visited the popular annual 'parent-child' lookalike contest to get a better look at what it takes to win a contest that is all about family tradition.

After his son's bike was stolen, a father took to the social media app, Nextdoor to post the video and a warning to his fellow neighbors. The outpouring of support he received was, in his words, "amazing." And just a week later, thanks to an anonymous donor, his son Antoine had a new bike.

For the first time in 3 years, Alyeska welcomed back the Blueberry Festival! But more than that? The blueberry pie-eating contest is also a part of the big show!
