South Dakota man pleads guilty to 2021 Austin murder
AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – A South Dakota man reached a plea deal in Mower County District Court Wednesday for the 2021 murder of an Austin resident.
19-year-old Miguel Nunez Jr. of Sioux Falls pleaded guilty to second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony for the 2021 murder of David Harris.
Nunez Jr. filed a petition to plead guilty to 2nd-degree murder without intent while committing a felony June 30.
A second-degree murder with intent charge and a second-degree murder without intent were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Officials said that Nunez Jr. went to a house in Austin to buy marijuana and threatened to shoot people if it wasn’t given to him.
Harris heard the argument and opened his bedroom door holding a gun. Nunez Jr. then shot Harris and left the house.
Nunez Jr. was later arrested in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Sentencing has been scheduled for October 27, 2022.
