Athlete of the Week - Hannah Hanson, Mayo Basketball
Hanson has led the Spartans to a five-game win streak.
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Hannah Hanson is putting the area on notice.
The Junior has been filling it up for Mayo averaging 22.4 points over the teams five-game win streak.
“I’m getting a lot more confident in my shot this year, especially my three pointers. Like I said before, my teammates are creating a lot of great opportunities for my on offense to score and we’re playing some good defense too,” Hanson said.
That boost in confidence has allowed her to show off a smooth game.
“It’s a lot of driving, I love going to the basket. I love being able to get fouled and shoot free throws, I think that’s really really exciting.”
Even when saying who’d win one on one, her teammates have to respect it.
“Hannah definitely. I’ll give her that, she’s quick, she moves the ball, she’s fast. She can get through anybody on defense,” Adit Koth, Hanson’s teammate said.
But Hannah’s more than just a scorer for the Spartans.
“I think I bring a lot of positivity and and light to my teammates. I think I have a lot of fun on the court, I love playing with them and I think we all just have a lot of fun together,” Hanson said.
“Hannah, she’s a really talented athlete. She moves the ball, she plays with her teammates and she cheers really loud for her teammates,” Koth said.
After losing four of five starters from last year, Mayo looked for players to step up and Hanson has been one of them, putting her team before herself.
“We’ve all been working really well together as a team. We’ve all been creating great opportunities for each other and I think getting used to playing this season without those seniors we had last year is getting a lot easier now,” Hanson said.
It’s all working with her at the center of it all.
‘She steps up, she tells us what we do wrong, she supports us, she gives us high fives, she laughs. She brings that great smile,” Koth said.
