ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Downtown Rochester will once again be hosting the annual ice festival event this winter.

SocialICE, a free winter social event, will be held February 3-5, 2022 at Peace Plaza. The festival will be returning with pre-pandemic fun including traditional ice bars and DJs.

SocialICE FAM JAM, a family-friendly day of SocialICE, will also return February 5, 2022.

“SocialICE was the last major event we hosted prior to the pandemic,” Holly Masek, Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) executive director. “We’re thrilled to bring this celebration back to the community again, and look forward, as always, to bringing folks together downtown.”

A typical SocialICE with ice bars and DJs brings in an estimated crowd of between 38,000 and 67,500 people.

As a response to COVID-19, RDA modified SocialICE in 2021 to Improv-ICE, which was a physically distanced winter opportunity and a Buy a Meal, Give a Meal restaurant campaign.

RDA will continue to collaborate with Olmsted County Public Health regarding the latest COVID-19 guidelines and adjust event plans as needed. Event-goers should anticipate a slightly more spacious layout of the event to increase physical distancing opportunities.
