ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Colder air is blowing into the area this afternoon behind a potent cold front

A cold front is moving through the heart of our local area this afternoon and colder air is blowing in from the northwest on brisk winds. Temperatures will slowly fall through the 40s today with wind chill values dropping into the 30s. The very mild weather we’ve been enjoying across the area today will disappear from the map by this evening. However, our weather will continue to be ideal for traveling anywhere in the area or surrounding region as dry skies will be the rule. Winds will turn to the northwest behind that front, occasionally gusting to 25 miles per hour by the early evening.

Thanksgiving Day is looking bright, but much colder as high pressure moves toward the Upper Mississippi Valley. We’ll enjoy abundant sunshine throughout the day, but even so, high temperatures will only be in the mid and upper 0s with a raw northwest breeze keeping wind chill values in the teens and lower 20s.

Friday will start with very cold morning temperatures in the teens and wind chills levels will be near zero. A brisk south breeze and occasional rounds of sunshine will help temperatures climb to the mid-30s in the afternoon.

A weak disturbance will move through the area Saturday afternoon, thickening our cloud cover for a time and eventually generating a few light rain showers that may mix with flurries or brief, light snow showers in the late afternoon and early evening, but no accumulation is expected. High temperatures Saturday will be in the upper 30s with a brisk southwest breeze.
