ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Preparations for the 36th Annual Festival of Trees was underway Monday in Rochester.

The event is a collaboration between Hiawatha Homes and Rochester Downtown Alliance.

This year, there are 83 trees and each one is decorated by community members. Underwriters then pick which tree they want, make a monetary donation, and then choose the location for it. Trees can be found at places like Mayo Civic Center, On Track Boutique, Chateau Theater and restaurant Chez Boji.

Hiawatha Homes has raised more $4 million over the years through the event.

In addition to helping to raise funds for Hiawatha Homes, another goal is to bring people downtown so they can shop local.

“Don’t worry about supply chains, and all that stuff,” Karli McElroy with Rochester Downtown Alliance said. “Come downtown, support local, support small businesses and do your holiday shopping. Bring the family down, bundle up and take a look at the holiday trees in the store fronts.”

The Festival of Trees celebrations continue for the rest of the week, which includes a gala Tuesday night, a family day and a silent auction. Find the schedule here.

A map of where the trees can be found here. They will be lit at 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

McElroy said RDA has a busy week with Here Comes Santa Claus on Friday and Small Business Saturday.
