North Broadway reopens for all traffic
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – After months of patiently waiting, North Broadway is back open
Folks in Rochester gathered Saturday to celebrate the end of phase one of construction on Broadway. There was live music, a beer garden and raffle prizes for visiting businesses along North Broadway.
Along with the newly-paved road, the construction team added nearly one mile of sidewalk and 5,000 feet of bicycle lane.
Rochester mayor Kim Norton spoke at the event where she highlighted the hard work that goes into strengthening a community.
“One of the things that’s been so important over the last couple years as I’ve been mayor is, how do we build stronger communities? How do we build stronger safer neighborhoods? We do that from the ground up. We do that because the people in the neighborhoods love their neighborhoods. They want their neighborhoods to be safe, and they work with the city to do that,” Rochester mayor Kim Norton said.
The owner of Elcor Construction, who lead the remodel of the North Broadway Project, also spoke. He talked about how they were able to complete the project despite running into some challenges.
“With the right planning, the communication, organization and commitment to the quality of work and safety, we were able to successfully complete this project,” Elcor Construction owner Cory Penz said.
Starting Monday, the road will be open to traffic from Silver Lake Bridge to Civic Center Drive.
