Community holds fundraiser for local girls with cancer
PLAINVIEW, Minn. (KTTC) – A community is coming together for two young girls who were diagnosed with cancer this month.
On Oct. 5, 14-year-old Abby from Lake City was diagnosed with Nuero Fibro Mitosis. On the same day, 10-year-old Kallyn from Plainview was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer.
After Plainview resident Sherri Norton heard this news, she wanted to do something to help the girls and their families. So, she hosted a raffle to raise money for Abby and Kallyn’s families.
Local businesses and others donated baskets for the fundraiser that was originally going to be held in Norton’s shop Magnolia Cottage. But, she received so many donations that they had to move the event to city hall.
“In the beginning, I started to reach out, then I kind of stopped, because what happened was we just had people bringing baskets in. And so I just stopped reaching out, because people just came forward. So we had probably close to 60 baskets that came in,” Norton said.
Norton said that there were around 200-250 people who came to the fundraiser to support the girls Saturday.
