LeRoy-Ostrander Ready for State Semifinals
LEROY, Minn. (KTTC) – The LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals set to play Kittson County Central in the 9-Man state tournament semifinals.
The Cardinals are playing their best football of the season. In the section championship game, the Cards pulled off a 30-6 upset win against top-seeded and undefeated Lanesboro. Then last week, the Cards blew out Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 57-26 in the state quarterfinals.
Now, LeRoy-Ostrander is in the final four at U.S. Bank Stadium representing Section 1. Section 1 has long been the gold standard of 9-man football in Minnesota, and the cardinals are excited for the chance to represent SE Minnesota’s section -- on the biggest football stage in the state.
“When I was growing up, you always heard about a team from our conference, Section 1, winning the state title. It’s a pretty big deal that we’re up here, but I’m excited,” said L-O quarterback Chase Johnson.
“If you look in the past, in the past 10 years, Houston winning early and then late 2000′s. Lanesboro has been up there as well, and then Grand Meadow had their run. Spring Grove had their run. It kind of passed the torch to us and it’s now our turn,” said L-O Head Coach Trevor Carrier. “We look to fulfill what Section 1 is all about. "
The Cardinals’ game against KCC starts Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m.
