Rochester Indian community celebrates “Virtual Diwali 2021″
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – One of the biggest celebrations for the Indian community is happening this weekend, as Rochester’s Virtual Diwali 2021 kicks off.
Diwali is a festival of light, that is celebrated by millions across the world. While the religious holiday was observed on Nov. 4, Saturday night, the Indian Cultural Association of Minnesota hosted a virtual event.
“This virtual event not only reflects the talent that is in our Rochester community, but, also the passion by the volunteers who came together to make this event a reality,” ICAM Cultural Committee Lead Dr. Shounak Majumdar said.
Those who bought tickets for the 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. virtual show, could listen to different guest speakers, watch a talent show and learn about different parts of Indian culture.
U.S. House Representative Tina Liebling was a guest speaker.
“The beauty of light is shared by all who see it,” Liebling said. “In the same way, the light of Rochester’s Indian community is shared by all who know you. I’m so grateful to be with you and look forward to next year when I hope we will be able to meet in person.”
Folks who bought a ticket for the event also received a $20 coupon to Royal Indian Cuisine in Rochester.
ICAM is partnering with the Diversity Council to encourage more Minnesotans to get vaccinated. To learn more, click here.
