Rochester Lourdes hockey team "living the dream"

ROCHESTER (KTTC-DT) -- When a kid first laces up the skates, the ultimate goal is the play in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament--it's where Ice Dreams are made.  The Lourdes Eagles are living that dream following a 3-2 victory over Red Wing in the Section 1-A Championship Game in Rochester Thursday night.

It was sure to be a barn-burner--the top-seeded Wingers vs. the third-seeded Eagles.

Red Wing came out strong to open up the scoring.  Showing the speed, that's Blake Schammel with the point-blank wrister to give the Wingers a 1-0 lead.

Lourdes answers back with their own speed... this is a quickie from Taylor Funk... top-shelf glove-side magic there. It's all knotted up at 1.

Eagles not wasting any time adding to that one... Wingers goalkeep gives up a rebound... and thats Cole Peterson going five-hole to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the first.

Cue the Zamboni while we recover from a wild first period.

Second period was quiet until the final few ticks... That's Peterson with the pass to Tyler Voigt for the one-timer... that finds the back of the net.  And that's your game-winner folks... Wingers add one in the third and threaten to tie... but that's all she wrote.

And for the first time since 2003... the Lourdes Eagles get to hoist the section championship trophy...a great group of kids that have worked extremely hard to reach this goal...what a night for the purple at the Rec Center...!
