Cottonwood marks anniversary of school bus crash

COTTONWOOD, Minn. (AP) -- It's a difficult day in Cottonwood, as residents mark the one-year anniversary of a school bus crash that killed four students under 13 years old.

Reed Stevens, Emilee Olson, and brothers Hunter and Jesse Javens were killed and 16 students were hurt when a mini-van drove through a stop sign and hit a Lakeview School bus.

The bus tipped and landed on a pickup driven by James Hancock of Marshall, who was also seriously injured.

Marshall Fire Chief Marc Klaith says he doubts anyone will ever forget that day, which he says changed all of Lyon County.

Students and members of the Lakeview School District have scheduled activities at the Lakeview School in Cottonwood designed to celebrate the lives of those who died and of the survivors.

The community is invited to a public event at the school, starting at 4:30 p.m.
