It's a celebration for the Chinese New Year

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- The Chinese New Year began last Monday, but Sunday, in Rochester, folks rung in the New Year with some festivities.

Families gathered at John Marshall High School this afternoon to participate in the activities.

The celebration was put on by the Chinese Student and Scholar Association at Mayo Clinic

There was a Chinese Art Exhibition and children's games in recognition of the year of the ox.

And of course, there were some great performances.

Organizers say 2008 was a great year and hope this year will be good as well.

Ping Yang, a Mayo Clinic professor, says, "We hope that the Chinese people and the American people and all the world will work together to overcome this difficulty. We think we all can make it, especially the year of ox. It's a good symbol for overcoming a difficult year."

Everyone in the audience was wished a prosperous New Year by watching the lion dance at the beginning of the show.
