Several weekend accidents cause injuries

SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA (FOX 47) -- It was a busy weekend for law enforcement and tow trucks.

While parts of the state have finally emerged from a deep freeze, icy roads now stricken much of our area, causing a string of deadly accidents.

According to Mn-DOT, driving is still difficult throughout much of southeastern Minnesota.

Be wary of ice patches, thanks to blowing winds and below freezing temperatures.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol icy roadways contributed to a fatal accident off Highway 52.

The crash happened just south of Pine Island Saturday morning. A Pine Island teenager, the driver, is in critical condition at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, after his car lost control and rolled.

The passenger of the vehicle was ejected and died. The identity of that person has not been released.

Another accident happened Saturday night at 7:30 in Goodview.

The State Patrol says a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 61 struck a pedestrian walking in the same lane.

The 46-year-old Winona male suffered a broken pelvis. He was transported to Saint Marys.

The driver, a 47-year-old woman from Spring Grove, was not injured.

The State Patrol says the pedestrian had been drinking.

A snowmobile accident also happened Saturday night, just before midnight, on Winona County Road 12 just east of Witoka.

Witnesses say a male and female victim were on a snowmobile, struck a driveway and flipped over.

One was transported to St. Marys by helicopter, another to Winona Community Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The Winona County Sheriff and ambulance responded to the scene.
