Minnesota lawmaker wants less hunting with lead bullets

ST. PAUL, MN (FOX 47) -- A Minnesota state lawmaker says she will introduce legislation to ban or cut back on the use of lead bullets for hunting.

Sandra Maslin, a Democrat from Eagan, cites reports of eagles dying from lead poisoning and of lead fragments found in venison.

She says it's part of an overall effort to get lead out of the environment.

The head of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association opposes regulating lead in bullets.

Mark Johnson says there's no evidence that lead from bullets is has actually harmed any people.

Johnson also said he has tried using copper ammunition and finds it less accurate than lead bullets.
