Shed, equipment among items lost in Hayfield fire

HAYFIELD, MN (FOX 47) -- In Hayfield, the holiday is not so happy for one family after their shed caught on fire around 11:30 Thursday morning. Three fire departments responded to the call.

A shed caught fire at the address of 11748 SW Highway 30. It was fully engulfed when fire crews got there. Hayfield, Kasson, and Stewartville fire departments helped put out the fire.

The shed was a total lost, along with the four vehicles that were inside. A riding lawn mower and a Bobcat were among the loss.

Officials do not know the cause of the fire just yet. Some of the materials inside the shed made firefighter efforts more difficult as well.

"According to the homeowner, there was quite a bit of gasoline or fuel inside. So they were worried about that. There were also some LP tanks. We were worried about that. And according to the homeowner, there was quite a bit of ammunition in the building as well," explains Olmsted County Duty Sergeant Kelly Lee.

Emergency crews had to shut down a part of Highway 30 for a while since strong wind gusts conditions decreased visibility along the road, making it impassable.

The homeowners were not available for comment, but Sergeant Lee says, of course, they are very upset.
