Wreaths across America, and in Rochester

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- From all across the country, to right here in Rochester, fallen soldiers were honored this holiday season with a wreath.

It's part of a program called "Wreaths Across America," and in Rochester, seven wreaths were placed at Soldiers Field Memorial to remember those from each branch of the Armed Forces.

The families of soldiers were also honored during a ceremony at the New Life Worship Center, to let them know their sacrifices are not forgotten.

Gene Enos says, "Well, Wreaths Across America is to remember our fallen and those current serving and past serving. It's a program that we want to promote so that our soldiers and our military are not forgotten nor their families. It's a celebration and we give gifts for Christmas and this is our gift towards our veterans and their families."

The wreaths will remain at Soldiers Field Memorial until February first.

Saturday's event continued at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Hundreds of Marines, families and other volunteers placed wreaths on the more than 5,000 tombstones.

For 15 years, the Worchester Wreath Company has provided the wreaths to help families remember and honor loved ones.

By the end of the day, more than 125 national cemeteries across the nation will be decorated with 100,000 evergreen wreaths and red boxes.
