Mankato man sought after boy solicited for sex

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -- Police are searching for a man accused of attempting to pay an 11-year-old boy for sex outside a college hockey game at the Alltel Center in Mankato on Friday night.

Surveillance video from the nearby Holiday Inn and from a skyway to the Alltel Center led officers to identify the man. The boy and his father also picked him out of a photo lineup.

Charges were filed Wednesday and a warrant issued for the arrest of 37-year-old Tavo Ray Bowman of Truman. Bail is set for $50,000, if police can find him.

Detective Matt DuRose says Thursday that police suspect Bowman has left the state.

The criminal complaint says the boy told officers he was approached in the skyway to the Alltel Center by a man in his 30s who gave him $20 and asked him to pull down his pants.

The man allegedly made two more offers of money for sex before the boy got scared and went to a nearby restaurant where his father was finishing dinner. The father called police about 6:30 p.m.

Holiday Inn employees confirmed to officers that Bowman was staying there that night, but officers didn't find him in his room. They also checked his house, but Bowman wasn't there.
