A welcoming ceremony for the new Bishop

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- It was a welcome basket of musical sorts - but the guest was late!

The Lourdes High School Pep Band was supposed to perform for Bishop Quinn's arrival at the Rochester International Airport Tuesday afternoon.

Quinn's flight, however, was delayed.

Rose Hammes, Director of Communications with the Winona Diocese, tells us that they were not sure why the flight was delayed.

The band still played for those who had gathered to greet the newly-appointed Bishop, including Bishop Harrington.

Hammes says that the students had been excited to play for him.

Rose Hammes says, "I'm not even sure the Bishop quite knew there was going to be a band here for him. We plan some of these things just as a nice welcome. So, um, there will be people here at 6:30 to meet him and he knows that he's going to be very welcomed when he arrives anyways, so."

Quinn did arrive safely around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He will be taking over Harrington's role as the Bishop of the Diocese of Winona, as Harrington has announced his retirement.
