Area braces for a wintry punch

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- Now is the time to get ready for the storm that is just beginning.

We've been out with people throughout the day who have been preparing for it, and we stopped by Cycle Pros Monday morning. The owner, Mark Vandal, says the phone traffic for snow blowers is definitely up.

Many people have heard the forecasts and are preparing themselves for what could be a rough evening and a nasty Tuesday morning.

Public Works also has their eyes on the weather forecasts, as workers are preparing for a busy evening.

The task at hand now is to make sure they have enough sand and salt mix ready to go.

Joe Fitzpatrick, Public Works Maintenance Manager, says, "We're getting the machinery ready today. Getting everything greased up; make sure everything is ready to go. Make sure the lights all work and everything like that."

Fitzpatrick says snow plow drivers will be ready to go at the first sign of a heavy snowfall.

He told us that he had hoped the snow wouldn't begin until 8:00 p.m. or later, so plow drivers won't have to run into heavy traffic.
