Holiday train brings some yuletide cheer to Rochester

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- There's a train coming to town!

"Well, our son, he's one and half, and he really loves trains, and we heard that Santa Claus was going to be on the train, and it was going to be decorated so we thought it would be a good experience for our family," one family said, waiting to see the train.

A special holiday train hit the Rochester railways Sunday night to benefit Channel One.

Cynthia Shaffer says, "It's going great, look at the crowd we have coming in, this is wonderful!"

Channel One Executive Director Cynthia Shaffer says they're expecting about 2,000 people to brave the cold and welcome the Canadian Pacific Railroad holiday showcase.

Shaffer says, "And the train will come in fully decorated with lights and Christmas trees, and it's going to pull up on the tracks right behind us and open up, and there's going to be entertainment."

After much anticipation, and hot chocolate, the train pulled into the station.

"It's better than I expected," said one on-looker.

Then, Santa hit the stage for a special holiday show.

Since the train started running nearly a decade ago, it has collected more than $3.5 million dollars, and nearly two pounds of food donations.
