Gage East building will close

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- The brand new Gibbs Elementary School in Northwest Rochester is set to open next year, and another elementary building will likely close.

During a work session today, the Rochester School Board recommended closing the Gage East Elementary building because it needs more than $2 million in repairs; Gage East serves 165 kindergarten and early childhood students.

School board member Fred Daly says they need to decide whether to place these students at Sunset Terrace and the main Gage elementary building.

The board has also made a preliminary decision on the new attendance boundaries for the district, although they are still ironing out the details.

The final attendance boundaries will be announced on December ninth.
