Mower County takes their turn with recounting ballots

AUSTIN, MN (FOX 47) -- Monday - a new week, and back to the daily grind.

The recount grind.

The Minnesota U.S. Senate race recount resumed Monday after a day off. Officials in Mower County got to work early - at exactly 8:15 a.m. - to begin tallying the votes.

In Mower County, Representatives for both the Coleman and Franken camps were on hand, as well as a team of officials to recount every single ballot cast.

"They are going through 19,302 ballots."

Mower County Auditor Doug Groh says they've encountered some human errors in the process, where voters incorrectly marked the ballot.

Groh says, "To error is human and we're finding that in the voting process."

But he says they are doing whatever they can to create a fair and balanced process.

Groh says, "What we want to do is maintain a formal process so that candidate or those candidates can rest assured that we did our jobs correctly."

Just over 73 percent of the precincts had been recounted as of Saturday, as the piles whittle down we get closer to a winner.

The process will continue next week.

Dodge County will recount their ballots on December 1st; Winona County will follow on December 3rd.
