Featherlite Trailers to close temporarily during the holiday season

CRESCO, IA (FOX 47) -- According to the Cresco Times-Plain Dealer, Featherlite Trailers is halting operations for six weeks during the upcoming holiday season.

Last Friday, the Cresco, Iowa company said its Plant 2 manufacturing facility will be closing for six weeks. The closure will be in effect from November 24th to the beginning of 2009. Employees will be returning on January 5th.

Roughly 115 employees will be affected by the temporary shut-down between Plant 2 and other areas of the manufacturing plant. Worker benefits will continue under the normal company policies.

Continuing a common trend across the country, the downturn in the economy has caused slow sales. Additionally, Featherlite officials say that with a large finished goods inventory, the company must take steps to balance production with market demands.

Featherlite says it will continue to monitor the market conditions and trailer demand.
