AUSTIN, MN (FOX 47) -- Christopher Hemann, a seventh grader at Ellis Middle School, received an award Wednesday from Austin Hy-Vee Foods at an assembly attended by his classmates, school personnel and family members.

Chris was chosen winner of Hy-Vee's "Smiles for Education" program.

Chris's prize was a laptop computer, but every seventh grader at Ellis was a winner along with Chris, as the school received $5000 from Hy-Vee.

The $5,000 award will be used toward the 7th grade Eagle Bluff trip.

Only ten stores out of the 800+ Hy-Vee stores receive this award each year.

Austin's Banfield Elementary received the award last year.  Austin Public Schools say they are honored to have received this highly competitive award two years in a row.
