Walz wins re-election

MINNESOTA (FOX 47) -- Congressman Tim Walz is headed back to Washington.

Walz won re-election to a second term, defeating GOP challenger and Mayo Clinic doctor Brian Davis.

He upset Republican Gil Gutknecht two years ago.

Walz says he's excited to get back to work, and adds both sides need to come together under a new President.

Republican Dr. Brian Davis, who challenged Walz, was gracious in defeat.

He conceded the race around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, and said he will now return to his work at Mayo Clinic.

Meanwhile, in a race that received some national attention, Republican Michele Bachmann has held on to her Congressional seat.

Bachmann overcame a polarizing comment she made last month that Barack Obama "may have anti-American views" to defeat Democratic challenger Elwyn Tinklenberg.

Bachmann, a freshman representing the Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, had been favored to win re-election, but the comment turned the race into a toss up.
