Davids defeats Tschumper

FILLMORE/HOUSTON COUNTIES, MN (FOX 47) -- After being ousted by DFL challenger Ken Tschumper two years ago, long-time Republican Representative Greg Davids was elected to serve again in the Minnesota House for most of Fillmore and Houston Counties.

We spoke with the winner earlier Wednesday.

In the 2006 election, Davids was beat by just 45 votes. This year, however, he came out on top - beating incumbent Ken Tschumper by over 400 votes.

Davids says, "It was a great night for our campaign and we came out victorious."

Davids previously served eight terms in the Minnesota House, but was beat two years ago by DFL challenger Ken Tschumper. This year it's a different story, but Davids says he couldn't have done it alone.

"We just worked so hard and I don't take the credit for this it was many, many volunteers that came out and said, 'Greg we believe in what you're doing, we believe in your positions on the issues and we want to help you', and they did."

Davids will head to the state capitol in January and says he hopes his seniority will put him right in the middle of budget negotiations.

Davids says, "I think everything has to be on the table and I think we have to go line by line and if it's a program that is serving the state of Minnesota we go for it. If there is one that's not doing it's job, then we have to re-evaluate and take another look at it.

Davids said he will stick by his values, but hopes to work across party lines to get the bills passed.
