A new Mayor for Albert Lea

ALBERT LEA, MN (FOX 47) -- Voters in Albert Lea spoke, and elected a new Mayor.

Long-time resident Mike Murtaugh beat the one-term incumbent Randy Erdman to win the honor as Mayor.

Here are the final final numbers.

Murtaugh received 4,650 votes while Erdman got 4,213. That makes a difference of 437 votes.

Murtaugh says voters sent a significant message, last night, by voting him in, and that they're clearly ready for a new Mayor.

Mike Murtaugh, Albert Lea Mayor-elect, says, "The majority of the folks in Albert Lea responded positively to what I've proposed for the city, and looking forward to getting started."

As Mayor, Murtaugh plans to create more transparency in government, and eliminate the restrictions placed on citizens at City Council meetings.

His goal is to restore the voice of the people in Albert Lea.
