Rochester kids voted too!

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- While adults headed to the polls Tuesday, students in Rochester were encouraged to tag along.

Students are able to vote on a Kids Voting ballot that replicates the adult ballot.

The results came in Wednesday morning and the kids picked Barack Obama for President and Norm Coleman for U.S. Senate.

The hope behind the vote is to get students to the polls to practice voting, so that as adults, voting becomes a habit.

Kids Voting Rochester is a program where students learn about democracy through a combination of classroom activities, family dialogue and an authentic voting experience.

This year, 4,081 students voted at the polls with their parents.

All students get an "I VOTED" sticker when they go to the polls before or after school with their parents.
