104 and going strong

PINE ISLAND, MN (FOX 47) -- This is one birthday Tillie Nyberg can be proud of.

Last week she turned 104 and it's one milestone even some family members didn't think she'd make.

Tillie's daughter Helen Rietmann says, "She worked so hard, we had an over about 250-260 acre farm and she had an awful lot of work to do."

But it might be that hard work that has helped her live such a long life.

Tillie's granddaughter says, "She always told me she just loved digging in the dirt. She could spend hours outside digging in the dirt."

She's lived through world wars, 18 United States presidents and even remembers the day the Titanic sank in 1912.

Sandra Reitmann says, "She's seen so much."

And after going through the Great Depression has taught her family how to be more conservative in tough times.

Sandra Reitmann says, "I've gained a lot of perspective from her and I really thank God for that."

It's been 104 full years of life and Tillie says she hopes to stick around for another four.

"We love her dearly," says Helen Reitmann.

So Tillie, we'll see you next year.

Tillie's mother lived to be 105.

Tillie was also joined today by her 94-year-old brother Phillip, her 90-year-old sister Joyce as well as five generations of family members.
