A world effort to end cancer

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC-TV) -- Mayo Clinic was honoring a pioneer today, whose research 30-years-ago is helping patients fight cancer today.

Doctor Judah Folkman was the first to research angiogenesis, or how cancer cells grow.

Today's workshop at Mayo Clinic is bringing doctors and researchers together, to share ideas on how to manipulate cancer cells to keep them from spreading.

Medical Oncologist Dr. George Kim says, "Patients that have these unfortunate cancers all benefit from targeting this cancer process, so very important."

Doctors say this meeting will lead to new therapies to care for cancer patients.
