Food shelf needs to be filled

AUSTIN, MN (KTTC-TV) -- The Mower County Salvation Army Food Shelf needs donations.  They're out of peanut butter and other staple items that families need.

On a monthly basis, about 200 households use the food shelf and depend on your donations.

The shelves need to be stocked with flour, sugar, canned vegetables and fruit.

And with Thanksgiving around the corner, the Salvation Army really needs your help with foods like sweet potatoes, biscuits, pie mixes and corn.

Lori Blanton with the Salvation Army says, "It's that time of year again when we just want to get awareness out that the food shelves are a starting to get a little low."

The food shelf is also out of pasta and rice, chili beans and canned milk.

The staff gets by with county contributions, but also relies on your continued support to fill the shelves.

The food shelf begins taking applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets Monday, last year 274 households received food baskets.
