Watch out for fraudulent letters

AUSTIN, MN (FOX 47) -- We want to warn our NewsCenter viewers of a suspicious letter being sent through the mail congratulating you that you've been offered a special job opportunity.

If you receive a letter from 'MYSTERY SHOP, INC." or from "SHOPPERS REVIEW, INC.", call your local authorities and notify them you've gotten the letter. These are, most likely, too good to be true.

Earlier this week, a family in Austin received two suspicious letters, in the mail, telling them that they had been pre-selected to represent a company called "Mystery Shopper."

Enclosed in the letters were cashiers checks from banks in Kansas and California. One was worth $3,405 and the other worth nearly $5,000.

We checked with both banks and confirmed that these are, in fact, fraudulent checks.

The Mower County Sheriff's Office says this is a scam, and you should contact your local authorities if you receive one of the suspicious letters.
