More money to schools, less out of your pocket?

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- Getting more money to our state's public schools without burdening the taxpayers - that's what one state legislator hopes to do.

On Tuesday, a bill in Rochester was introduced by Representative Mindy Greiling to fix what she calls a broken education finance system.

Greiling calls this a catch-up bill and on average it would increase a district's per pupil funding by almost $1600.

Greiling says the state has looked to taxpayers too often to fund our schools.

But this new proposal would simplify and increase school funding, while also reducing property taxes.
