Fargo's MeritCare won't see Unicare seniors

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Fargo's MeritCare Health System says it will stop providing services to seniors who get health insurance coverage through Unicare, starting next year.

MeritCare's statement says the Unicare health insurance plan was sold mainly to patients in its Minnesota market.

MeritCare says it's the first time it's decided to end its relationship with a benefit provider in Medicare's advantage program. Its statement says the decision stems from issues that MeritCare brought to Unicare's attention that have not been addressed or resolved.

It says patients who have questions or who want to change policies should contact the insurance agent who sold them their Unicare plan.

MeritCare says it won't turn away patients seeking care in its emergency centers.
