Beijing (KTTC-TV/AP) -- Kara Goucher of Duluth finished in 10th place in the grueling women's 10,000 meter race at the Beijing Summer Olympics on Friday.  Another American runner--Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina--finished 3rd to win a bronze medal.  Flanagan crossed with a time of 30:22.22, an American record.

The 30-year-old GOUCHER came in with a time of 30:55.16, a minute behind the winner, Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia.  The silver medalist was Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey. Goucher's time was a personal best in the 10,000 meters; the 30-year-old former star for Duluth East High School beat her previous personal best time by nearly 22 seconds.

Goucher will race again on Tuesday in the 5,000 meter preliminaries.
