American killed in China is from Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Todd Bachman is being remembered as a friendly supporter of his suburban community, as well as the leader of a family business that has served gardeners and flower buyers in the Twin Cities area for 123 years.

Bachman was stabbed to death in Beijing Saturday. His wife, Barbara, suffered life-threatening injuries in the same attack. They were with their daughter, Elisabeth Bachman McCutcheon, who played volleyball at Lakeville High School and became an Olympian in the sport.

Her high school coach, Milan Mader, says Bachman and her parents were big fans of the volleyball program even after she graduated.

Todd Bachman was the fourth-generation chief executive officer of Bachman's, Inc., a home and garden center founded in 1885 and based in Minneapolis.
