Bridge failure may have caused train to derail

BROWNSVILLE, MN (FOX 47) -- A train carrying ethanol has derailed near Brownsville and is stopping traffic in southeastern Minnesota.

The cars went of the tracks around 6:20 a.m. on Highway 26 and CR 249.  20 of the cars are in the Mississippi River.  A hazardous materials team from the Twin Cities has been called in to help.

Highway 26 is closed until further notice.  The official detour takes drivers  to County Road 3 and 14 in Caledonia.

No homes are in the danger home, and no one has been evacuated.
