Wade sworn in as new sheriff's deputy in Austin

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -

There's a new Sheriff's Deputy in Austin.  A swearing-in ceremony took place at the Austin Police Department Friday to welcome John Wade to his new job.
Members of Austin law enforcement and his family were on hand Friday to see him sworn in by Sheriff Terese Amazi.

Wade says it was a long time coming.  He went to college for law enforcement at RCTC and graduated in law enforcement in 2017.  He started his career at the Mower County Jail in July of 2017.  He was offered the position of Deputy Sheriff in June and now says he feels it's important to keep his community safe.

"I'm there to make sure to resolve conflict between neighbors and families and what not," Wade explains, "So I'm just looking forward to being able to communicate with people.  Kinda be one of the faces of the county.  I just want the best for this county and all the surrounding communities.  I grew up in LeRoy so, it's kind of good to go back to my home county, I guess."

Wade also says that after growing up in LeRoy, it'll be a good feeling coming back to his home town to enforce laws.  He says while LeRoy has gone through some changes since 2011 when he graduated high school, he still knows most people there so he doesn't really feel like he's starting over.
