Ronald McDonald House expansion project set for Friday

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

The final structural bean of the Ronald McDonald House expansion project was set Friday.

The beam featured messages of hope and love signed by guest children and families, volunteers, staff and community members - some who traveled hundreds of miles just to sign it.

The expansion is said to give the opportunity for the Ronald McDonald House to serve more families in the SE Minnesota Area.

Executive Director Peggy Elliot said seeing the last bean go into the project symbolizes a bright and hope-filled future.

"That beam really represents the strength of this organization and the mission and how we are here to serve families who come to this medical community for care. I think it also represents the strength of this community starting with the families and all the people in this caring community who support them in their medical journey," said Elliot.

"This addition is hope and it's a bright future for our mission. We'll be able to serve hundreds more families starting next Spring, when we open the doors on the new addition."

Elliot also said in the past three years, more than 3,000 families were turned away due to a lack of capacity.
