Highway 14 crash near Byron turns fatal


A two car collision on Highway 14 Tuesday afternoon turns fatal after a passenger dies. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 18-year-old Michael Hendrix of Beroun, Minnesota was killed. He was a passenger in a 2004 Honda Accord driven by a 16-year-old male. 

The teenage driver collided with a Jeep headed east on Highway 14 around 4:20 p.m. when he tried to cross at the County Road 3 intersection in Byron. 

Gold Cross took the driver of the Jeep, 60-year-old Scott Gifford of Byron, to Mayo Clinic - Saint Marys with non-life threatening injuries. 

Traffic was backed up considerably on the east and west bound lanes of Highway 14.

The Olmsted County Sheriffs office and the Byron Fire Department assisted on scene.
